Huawei has announced that it is working on a new running smartwatch. This upcoming wearable will be the first of its kind from the brand since the Watch GT Runner was released in 2021. It has been described by the company as a "cutting-edge professional running watch".
To develop its new running smartwatch, Huawei has teamed up with the dsm-firmenich Running Team, whose members include marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge. The company indicates that professionals like Kipchoge and Joshua Cheptegei have informed some of the watch's features and algorithms based on their extensive knowledge. Huawei states that these should "deliver meaningful insights that benefit not only elite athletes, but runners of all levels around the world."
While Huawei has yet to officially reveal the name of its upcoming running smartwatch, it has hinted at some of its features. In the announcement, the company mentions its TruSense system, which can measure over 60 health and fitness metrics. It is also expected to feature the brand's Sunflower positioning system, allowing you to track your route. Huawei suggests that this technology is particularly accurate, with a test involving more than 100 runners demonstrating greater than 97% accuracy for race performance predictions. Plus, there could be an energy level monitoring tool, assessing your fatigue to help you optimize your training performance.
It is unclear when the new Huawei running smartwatch will be released, and how much it could cost. As an indication, the brand's current Watch GT 6 retails for €249, and the Watch GT 6 Pro is priced at €379 (curr. €322.16 at Amazon DE).
