New Cyberpunk 2077 mod introduces Watch Dogs-style hacking options
Modder specikk recently outed a gameplay mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that aims to overhaul the game’s hacking mechanics. While it's currently a work in progress, the City H4ck mod already offers gamers on PC a wider range of hacking options, including the ability to remotely lock and unlock all accessible doors and vehicles.
Cyberpunk 2077 has had a remarkably rough launch, to the extent that even the New York Times called out issues with bugs, performance, and unmet expectations. The game itself is significantly shorter than many expected, and mechanics like hacking boiled down to a minigame, stealth-oriented gameplay options and single-button interactibility.
While City H4ck doesn’t exactly change how hacking works in the game, it significantly increases the number of environmental assets players can interact with. The remote door opening and vehicle access features, in particular, call to mind Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs series. While the mod is currently more or less a proof of concept, it’ll be interesting to see if its developer, or other modders, take Cyberpunk’s hacking mechanic further.
