New Citizen "Blue Angels" NB6044-54L GMT Promaster watch revealed
A new Citizen Blue Angels edition watch is joining its Promaster GMT range - the NB6044-54L. This model was spotted through an announcement shared by @plus9time on Instagram. The watch features a blue dial with yellow accents and aviation-themed design elements, alongside an automatic movement. It looks to have strong visual ties to earlier Blue Angels releases, but with a larger case and a more technical layout.
The NB6044-54L uses a 44.5 mm stainless-steel case that measures 12.7 mm thick, making it one of the larger modern Promaster GMTs. A rotating yellow slide-rule chapter ring surrounds the dial. It's a functional tool typically used by pilots for calculations such as fuel consumption and time-distance conversions. The dial layout includes oversized applied markers at 12 and 6, a framed date window at three o’clock, and a yellow GMT hand that offers tracking for a second time zone.
A prominent Blue Angels logo is printed on the dial and engraved across the caseback. The engraved caseback is shown clearly in the leaked images, along with the model’s reference and water-resistance markings. The crown and secondary control at two o’clock use knurled metal textures. Inside the watch is Citizen’s Caliber 9054, an automatic GMT movement with hacking seconds and the ability to independently adjust the local hour hand when traveling. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and a stainless-steel bracelet using a push-button clasp with engraved branding. Water resistance is listed at 200 meters.
The design is based on Citizen’s long relationship with the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels flight squadron, and this theme has appeared across many Eco-Drive and mechanical releases in past years. This new reference seems to be a more premium and mechanically focused edition compared to the more common quartz models.
Pricing and market availability have not yet been confirmed. Since the announcement was shared by Citizen Hong Kong, initial release is likely to begin in that region before expanding. Judging by previous Blue Angels launches, demand may be high among collectors in both aviation and Promaster communities.
