NASA Artemis Watch 2.0 launches as retro-futuristic Pip-Boy for $129

The CircuitMess NASA Artemis Watch 2.0 is probably one of the most unusual smartwatches on the market, not least because of its large, rectangular housing made of transparent plastic, which allows a view of the mainboard. The large, square display shows a user interface with a retro-futuristic look that could have come straight out of a Fallout Pip-Boy.
The hardware is relatively simple - CircuitMess relies on an ESP32 microcontroller with a Bluetooth module that enables connection to Android smartphones and the Apple iPhone ($780 on Amazon). Incoming notifications can then be displayed. With a gyroscope and an accelerometer, the smartwatch can record activities. A temperature sensor and compass complete the sensor package, but the watch does not have a heart rate or SpO2 sensor.
While the hardware is not nearly as advanced as an Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch, for example, the NASA Artemis Watch 2.0 uses open source firmware that can be customized by users as desired. Not only can the functionality be expanded with apps and watch faces, the firmware also allows access to sensor data and modifications at system level. A USB-C port is available for charging and transferring data.
