Motorola releases new 5G mid-range smartphone with 125 W charging and 144 Hz OLED display
Motorola has finally fully unveiled the Edge 50 Pro, nearly three weeks after the company hinted that it would release a new device on April 3. As expected, Motorola has positioned the Edge 50 Pro as a mid-range device, unlike the Edge 40 Pro (curr. $899 on Amazon). Nonetheless, the Edge 50 Pro has a few premium touches, including 125 W wired charging support and a large pOLED display that peaks at 2,000 nits.
Similarly, the Edge 50 Pro is IP68-certified against dust and water ingress. Moreover, the device's 6.7-inch pOLED display outputs at 1220p and 144 Hz, unlike many of its contemporaries. On top of that, Motorola has integrated a 50 MP front-facing camera, as well as 13 MP ultra-wide-angle, 10 MP telephoto and 50 MP primary cameras. For reference, the 10 MP telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom, while the 50 MP primary camera has an f/1.4 aperture and is optically stabilised (OIS).
Furthermore, the Edge 50 Pro contains a 4,5000 mAh battery that also supports 50 W wireless charging. Supposedly, the handset is the first to receive Pantone validation for its cameras and display; typically, a smartphone would be validated for one or the other. The presence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset makes the Edge 50 Pro a Nord CE 4 rival, which OnePlus launched earlier this week. While the Nord CE 4 starts at INR 24,999 (~$300), the Edge 50 Pro costs a minimum of INR 31,999 (~$383) for a year's additional software support until Android 17. Motorola will begin selling the Edge 50 Pro on April 9 at 21:00 IST (15:30 UTC) with the following memory combinations; unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether a global release is planned.
- 8 GB RAM/256 GB storage - INR 31,999 (~$383)
- 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage - INR 35,999 (~$431)
