Leak reveals Apple Beats Solo4 headphones with lossless audio, 40 mm drivers and 50h battery life
The Beats Solo3 (approx. 165 euros on Amazon) were announced in September 2016, and almost eight years later the popular on-ear headphones are still being sold. The successor is now finally in the starting blocks, as 9to5Mac has already obtained the first images from a trustworthy source and was able to find out many details about the features.
First and foremost, Apple is replacing the micro USB port with a USB-C port - a long overdue change. The battery life increases by ten hours to a total of 50 hours, and thanks to USB-C, 10 minutes of charging should provide enough power for five hours of music playback. The headphones can be connected to a source device either via Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C, or a 3.5 mm headphone jack; lossless Hi-Fi sound and operation with an empty battery are supported for wired connections.
Brand new 40-millimeter drivers are said to deliver more detailed sound with deeper bass and clearer treble, while the Beats Solo4 also support dynamic 3D sound with head tracking, at least in conjunction with Apple devices. However, nothing stands in the way of using them with Android smartphones, as Apple is even said to support Google Fast Pair for this purpose. However, tracking via Apple's "Where is?" app only works if the headphones are used with a Apple device.
The lightweight 217-gram Beats Solo4 promise better wearing comfort thanks to new "UltraPlush" ear pads. The headphones can be folded for easier transportation. The recommended retail price, at least in the USA, should remain the same as the Beats Solo3, i.e. US$199.99. By comparison, the list price of the Beats Solo3 in Germany is 229.95 euros.
