Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 rumoured to be in line for Wear OS 3 upgrade
Earlier this month, Gadgets & Wearables revealed that Mobvoi had been informing TicWatch customers of its Wear OS 3 release schedule. Supposedly, the company stated that only the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra would receive Wear OS 3, despite the pair featuring the same Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset as the original TicWatch Pro 3. For reference, all TicWatch smartwatches remain on Wear OS 2, with the TicWatch Pro 5 still unreleased for now.
Subsequently, Gadgets & Wearables contacted Mobvoi to clarify its Wear OS 3 plans. According to the website, the TicWatch Pro 3 remains eligible for a Wear OS upgrade. The new statement does not discuss a Wear OS 3 release date, though. Instead, Mobvoi merely informed Gadgets & Wearables that it would publish any news on its website and thanked the website for its 'patience and understanding'.
Previously, Mobvoi stated that it would start updating TicWatch smartwatches to Wear OS 3 in Q3 2023. However, Google may have already released Wear OS 4 by that point, with evidence suggesting that the company has a Material You-based update in the works. If that is the case, then Google may showcase a new version of Wear OS next month during I/O 2023, alongside Android 14 and at least the Pixel 7a. In other words, TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 smartwatches may be running outdated software again by the time their Wear OS 3 upgrades arrive.
