Mobius Final Fantasy, a popular mobile spin-off of the Final Fantasy franchise, will end services in the United States on June 30. The game garnered fairly positive reviews over its 4-year tenure on iOS, Android, and Steam.
Sam Medley,

The popular free-to-play mobile game Mobius Final Fantasy is finally terminating its service on June 30 in the United States, capping off a fairly successful 4-year run.

Mobius Final Fantasy is a beautifully rendered spin-off of the storied Final Fantasy series. The turn-based RPG came to iOS, Android, and Steam back in 2016 and has since been met with positive reviews. While the game is fully playable without spending a dime (and more so than most free-to-play mobile games), players could purchase in-game currency to get through portions of the game or quests a bit easier.

The marketplace for the in-game currency shut down in Japan yesterday and will go offline in the United States and the rest of the world on March 31. That will also mark the end of services for Japanese players, while the rest of the world will have until June 30 to play through the game.

In a statement, the development team behind Mobius Final Fantasy made the following statement yesterday:

Thank you for playing and supporting MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY throughout the years.

After many difficult discussions, Square Enix ended service for the Japanese version of MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY in December 2019, after the Warrior of Despair story concluded.

Service for the global version of the game will continue until the Warrior of Despair story has concluded on June 30, 2020, at 6:00 pm PDT (UTC-7), at which time service for it, too, will end.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our players who have supported us since service began back on August 3, 2016. It is with heavy heart that we must now bring you this sad news.

We will continue to implement updates to in-game events, including the conclusion of the Warrior of Despair story, until the end of service, so it is our fondest hope that you will see our adventurers' fates out to the very last.

Thank you for fighting alongside the Warriors of Light and for being a part of the world of Mobius Final Fantasy. May you continue to bring the light of hope to those around you.

Did you ever play Mobius Final Fantasy? What are your thoughts and favorite memories about the game? Let us know in the comments.

I've been a "tech-head" my entire life. After graduating college with a degree in Mathematics, I worked in finance and banking a few years before taking a job as a Systems Analyst for my local school district. I started working with Notebookcheck in October of 2016 and have enjoyed writing news articles and notebook reviews. My areas of interest include the business side of technology, retro gaming, Linux, and innovative gadgets. When I'm not hunched over an electronic device or writing code for a new database, I'm either outside with my family, playing a decade-old video game, or sitting behind a drum set.
