Dragon Quest fans, rejoice! Square Enix announced a handful of new games, including a new mainline title, for the storied RPG franchise’s 35th anniversary.
The new mainline game is titled Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. Square Enix announced the game in a livestream, but the trailer only revealed the title. Gameplay is yet to be seen. We also do not yet know the platforms the title will land on or the release date.
Square Enix also announced an HD remake of one of the most popular entries in the Dragon Quest franchise. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (as the remake is called) looks to be in the same vein as other modern 2D JRPGs. The art style looks similar to “2.5D” JRPGs like Octopath Traveler and Golden Sun. Neither the platforms nor the release date for this game has been announced.
Two other games were announced. Dragon Quest Treasures is a spinoff of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age and seems centered around treasure hunting. Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi is a free-to-play mobile puzzle game that features monsters and characters from the Dragon Quest franchise.
