After being around for nearly 14 years, Sabayon Linux was discontinued in 2019. However, the spirit of this Italian Gentoo-based distro lives on thanks to MocaccinoOS, which is basically a rebranding with a focus on containerization. This rebranding was the result of a merger between Sabayon and another Gentoo-based distro, namely Funtoo. Yesterday, MocaccinoOS 25.09 arrived as the first version to switch the versioning scheme to year.month format, so it shouldn't be surprising to find out that this release is the successor of version 1.8.3.
The three main changes from 1.8.3 to 25.09 are these:
- A new long-term support kernel, specifically version 6.12.45.
 - Mesa has been upgraded to version 25.1.9.
 - The Nvidia driver package labeled 570.181 is available in the repository.

In addition to the above, MocaccinoOS 25.09 comes with binaries that have been rebuilt with more aggressive compiler flags for improved performance and smaller sizes alongside better detection of older HDDs, as well as integrated detection code for Intel Xe and ARC Battlemage. Flatpak sandboxing got some fixes, and the same happened with Calamares, which had some issues with user-selected system languages during installation. Last but not least, there is still an unresolved issue with some older UEFI systems, which need BIOS legacy mode due to EFISTUB limitations.
MocaccinoOS 25.09 is available in no less than four versions: MATE, Xfce, KDE, and GNOME.
