While last week's update is supposed to be the stable version of Linux Mint 22.2 "Zara," it looks like there are quite a few bugs crawling inside it. Leaving aside the user reports, even the official release notes contain the description of a few problems that shouldn't appear in a piece of code that's being thrown into the wild carrying the "stable" flag. Although there are three main flavors of this distro, all seem to be facing about the same problems.
The most annoying problem, at least for Nvidia users of affected chipsets, involves crashes on old GPUs that use the 470 driver. The HWE kernel 6.14, which ships with all three Linux Mint versions, also has problems with VirtualBox. For now, the solution is to keep using Mint 22.1 instead, since it ships with the 6.8 LTS kernel.
ZFS support has been removed from the installer since only a few people were using it. During boot time, some graphics cards might lead to a system freeze, and the solution is to use the "Compatibility Mode" boot option.
Since Linux Mint 22.2 is using Pipewire, this new sound server might cause some issues on certain hardware configurations. Such a problem is choppy sound over HDMI, a bug currently being on the extermination list.
In the Linux Mint forum, a user reported that Sticky Notes for MATE "remains in a non-working state" and also mentioned that every action involving files leads to the inability to delete the icons generated by these operations.
