Details about the upcoming Matter 1.5 release appear to have leaked. This will be the first update in 2025 for the smart home connectivity standard, which originally launched in 2022. It follows the Matter 1.4 update in November 2024.
This earlier release brought support for heat pumps, electric water heaters and balcony power plant devices like inverters, panel arrays, battery walls and storage units. According to X leaker CyberModStudio, the Matter 1.5 update will add irrigation systems and soil sensors to the list of supported smart home products.
The leak indicates that there are at least six companies that will offer Matter-compatible smart garden products. The line-up includes Rachio, which has previously launched products like the Smart Hose Timer (curr. $109.98 at Amazon), allowing users to remotely control or automate their watering with app-based controls and support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. The other companies are Grundfos, Gardena, Grimsholm, Nordic Semiconductors and PuzL Labs.
The Matter 1.5 update is expected to roll out in spring 2025; an exact release date has yet to be announced. Which of the existing smart gardening products from these companies will gain Matter compatibility remains to be seen.
