Lenovo releases new 14-inch laptop globally with Snapdragon X2 and over 33 hours battery life
Lenovo has released a new Snapdragon X2-backed laptop in North America. Specifically, the company has finally started replacing the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8X9 (curr. $799 on Amazon), which debuted in September 2024 during IFA 2024 with Snapdragon X Plus processors.
Incidentally, the arrival of the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8Y11 in Canada and North America coincides with its global release, with Lenovo having launched the laptop almost three months ago elsewhere. To recap, the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8Y11 moves up to the Snapdragon X2 Plus X2P-42-100. According to our benchmarks, this change alone should provide the new IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 with around 19% more CPU performance than its predecessor.
Additionally, Lenovo pairs this Snapdragon X2 chipset with LPDDR5X RAM running at 9,523 MT/s compared to 8,448 MT/s for the older IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8X9. On top of that, the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8Y11 features M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 SSD slots, of which only the former is populated from the factory.
Also, Lenovo includes a 60 Wh battery, which it claims lasts over 33 hours in 1080p local video playback tests. North America has not received the OLED display options sold in Australia and Europe, though. Instead, Lenovo is only offering a 1200p IPS panel with 400 nits peak brightness, a 60 Hz refresh rate and 45% NTSC colour space coverage.
Lenovo charges CAD 2,079 and $1,099 for the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14Q8Y11 in Canada and the US, respectively. Allegedly, the latter price represents a 26% discount from a $1,499 MSRP. Please see Lenovo's website for more details.
