Lenovo quietly adds Intel Lunar Lake to 16-inch ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 and E16 Gen 3

Early September 2024: The Intel Lunar Lake platform hits the market. Marketed as Core Ultra 200V, this CPU series has not taken the world by storm with new performance records, but it has delivered something much more beneficial for Intel: Efficiency. Overall, Lunar Lake systems delivered longer battery life, less heat output and less fan noise than earlier Intel CPUs. This makes it especially well suited for office laptops, where performance is less important than the everyday user experience.

With the Intel Panther Lake platform recently arriving on the market, one would think the time for new releases with Lunar Lake is over. Yet, it seems that this is not quite the case. Lenovo has quietly announced two new Lunar Lake options for laptops that previously were not available with these CPUs. Specifically, the 16-inch models Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 and the Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 3.

Notably about both of those systems is that they share their motherboards with smaller models that were already available with Lunar Lake - the ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 (available on Amazon) and ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 - so offering Lunar Lake seemingly is a pretty easy drop-in. Of particular interested could be the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 with Lunar Lake, as its huge 86 Wh battery could produce epic battery life results in conjunction with Lunar Lake.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T16 G4 and the ThinkPad E16 G3 with Intel Lunar Lake are already listed at the Lenovo PSREF database, so their release seems to be imminent.
