The manufacturer introduced the Lenovo Tab at CES as an affordable entry-level model for kids, school, college, and the living room. We tested the tablet and summarize our results for you here.

It doesn't always have to be an expensive iPad or high-performance tablet from Samsung. Sometimes you simply need a relatively affordable and compact device, be it for the kids for learning and gaming, to take notes at the college, to watch movies on the road, or simply to access the Internet at the living room table.

For all that, an affordable device such as the Lenovo Tab that we recently tested would be sufficient. First, the tablet impressed us with its metal case, since at a price starting from around 150 Euros (~$157) directly from Lenovo, this is not a given. Of course, it could have been more resistant to pressure, but to hold a high-quality unibody case in your hands for so little money is amazing. In addition, the Lenovo Tab also has good stereo speakers that work well when listening to music or even movie soundtracks.

Another highlight in our test is the display that impresses with a Full-HD resolution, which is high for this price class, a fairly low black value leading to a high contrast, and a decent color accuracy with the right settings. In addition, it works without PWM flickering, so we can also recommend it for sensitive users.

A real surprise considering the affordable price and lack of an LTE modem is the ability of the Lenovo Tab to locate its position via satellite networks. Even though the locating isn't completely accurate, it is still sufficient for navigation in your car or on the bike.

On the other hand, there are also many aspects of the Lenovo Tab that are less than convincing: There is for example the fairly small battery that leads to a shorter battery life. Or the SoC that isn't really very powerful. In addition, Lenovo is sloppy with its software updates: Some of them take a long time to arrive and in this case, the manufacturer doesn't even want to give a promise how long the Lenovo Tab will be supplied with updates.

Even considering all that, the affordable tablet can be an interesting choice. We recommend reading our extensive review with numerous benchmarks, detailed analyses, and result tables before making a purchase decision.
