Roland Quandt has managed to obtain almost all details about the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Samsung's next flagship smartwatches. As expected, Samsung will offer the Galaxy Watch5 series in three sizes, starting with the 40 mm version of the Galaxy Watch5. Additionally, there will be a Galaxy Watch5 with a 44 mm case size, mirroring its predecessor.
Conversely, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will only arrive next week with a 45 mm case size, 1 mm smaller than the larger Galaxy Watch4 Classic that it will be replacing. For some reason, Samsung has elected against releasing a smaller Galaxy Watch5 Pro model, which could come as a frustration for people who have smaller wrists.
For context, the smallest Galaxy Watch5 model has a 1.19-inch AMOLED display with a 284 mAh battery, up from 247 mAh in the Galaxy Watch4. The display still resolves at 396 x 396 pixels, though. Similarly, the larger Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro receive a 1.36-inch AMOLED display that matches the Galaxy Watch4 Classic's 450 x 450-pixel resolution. However, Samsung distinguishes the pair with their battery capacities, which are 410 mAh and 590 mAh, respectively.
As a result, both Galaxy Watch5 models will be rated for up to 50 hours of use, a 10-hour improvement on their predecessors. By contrast, Samsung will advertise the Galaxy Watch5 Pro with up to 80 hours of battery life, double what the larger Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic models manage. Surprisingly, the Galaxy Watch5 series achieves these runtimes with the same Exynos W920 SoC that powers the Galaxy Watch4 series.
Predictably, the Galaxy Watch5 series will offer 10 W wireless charging, GPS, NFC and optional LTE, plus 16 GB of storage. Quandt adds that the Galaxy Watch5 will start at €299 as a 40 mm smartwatch, with the 44 mm version costing €329. Finally, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will retail for €469 in both colours. The Galaxy Watch5 series will debut on August 10 alongside the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4.
