Nvidia finally kicked off its Blackwell architecture for consumers last week at CES 2025. To recap, the company arguably surpassed expectations by unveiling not just the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080 but also the more affordable GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti. Even cheaper options are reportedly on the horizon in the form of GeForce RTX 5060 class cards.
According to new rumours, Nvidia may be planning to offer more GeForce RTX 5060 variants than previously thought. For context, Intel recently introduced the Arc B580 (curr. $399 on Amazon) with 12 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. By contrast, Moore's Law is Dead (MLID) states that the GeForce RTX 5060 will come with 8 GB of VRAM as standard, albeit the faster GDDR7 standard thanks to its GB206 GPU.
The GB206-based card is slated to receive a more generous VRAM capacity though, just like the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti before it. Specifically, MLID adds that Nvidia will sell a 12 GB variant alongside the stock 8 GB model, also with GDDR7 VRAM operating on a 128-bit bus. The frequently reliable source claims that both SKUs will launch in March with a GB206 die measuring 183 mm². Unfortunately, it remains to be seen how much of the GB206's 4,608 CUDA cores will be present at this stage.
