Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 Series presentation at CES 2025 made lofty claims but also raised questions. CEO Jensen Huang boasted that the RTX 5090 would be twice as fast as the RTX 4090. The RTX 5080, RTX 5070, and RTX 5070 Ti would also dramatically improve on older RTX graphics cards. Now, gamers may have to wait a bit longer for real-world impressions, with Team Green changing some review embargo dates.
VideoCardz.com was the first to report that the embargo on the RTX 5080 wouldn't lift until January 30th. Nvidia initially set a date of January 21st, but delays in a BIOS release impacted manufacturers. Leaks continue to surface, but full reviews of the RTX 5080 aren't allowed until its release date on January 30th meaning buyers won't have much time to digest third-party tests of the desktop GPU.
The GeForce RTX 5090 is the crown jewel of Nvidia's Blackwell family. Nvidia has decided on a January 24th review embargo date for the high-end GPU. The graphics card will also be available at retailers on January 30th, so buyers can more carefully weigh whether it justifies the $1999 price tag. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti won't debut until later in February.

With the high asking price of RTX 5090, many gamers are more focused on the $999 RTX 5080. Instead of massive advantages in raw power over the RTX 4080 the card will heavily rely on DLSS 4. Multi-frame generation is exclusive to the RTX 50-series and can enable even higher frame rates using AI technology. 75 games will showcase the feature at launch. The benefits of upgrading are questionable if the game you mostly want to play doesn't have full DLSS 4 support.
The change in embargo date has raised speculation that the RTX 5080 won't dramatically outshine previous generation GPUs. In any case, reviews should soon clarify why Nvidia is prioritizing the RTX 5090.
