KytyPS5 emulator makes big progress, reportedly runs latest PS5 exclusive on PC

It seems like the whole console emulation scene has been kicked into a higher gear. The pace of development of emulators like RPCS3 has been impressive, to say the least. This also includes KytyPS5, the Sony PlayStation 5 emulator that has been making waves. We’ve already seen KytyPS5 run PS5 exclusives like Demon’s Souls and AstroBot. 

The development of KytyPS5 is going full steam ahead, and the emulator is reportedly now able to boot Marvel’s Wolverine, per a video posted by Jose Coixao on X (linked at the end). The video shows Marvel’s Wolverine reaching the main menu and settings menu. But we don’t see any gameplay. Even if we were to see gameplay, we think the performance wouldn’t have been good, judging from the main menu graphics.

Marvel’s Wolverine is the latest Sony first-party exclusive developed by Insomniac. Unfortunately, the third-person action-adventure title didn’t live up to the hype. The game currently stands at a middling 76 on Metacritic, with a 6.8 average user score. For comparison, Insomniac’s previous title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, earned a 90 on Metacritic, with an 8.6 user score.

That said, Marvel’s Wolverine is a good test case for KytyPS5. It is a brand-new PS5 game developed using Insomniac’s in-house game engine. The game booting on KytyPS5, albeit on a PC with an RTX 5090 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, opens doors for potentially more Insomniac games on KytyPS5. So in the coming days, we might see Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, etc. boot on KytyPS5.

Booting a game is one thing, and being able to play that game from start to finish is another. KytyPS5 is not at a place where it can manage the latter. But with the speed at which the development of KytyPS5 is progressing, we might be able to play Marvel’s Wolverine, and other PS5 games, on PC before too long.
