Noteworthy peripheral manufacturer Jsaux appears set to bring e-ink and/or pixel screen front panel(s) to Steam Machine, like a not-for-sale screen panel previously seen at Valve.

Recently on X/Twitter, Jsaux announced that it would be releasing one or more front panel Steam Machine displays, similar to the one we saw being used at Valve but not intended for public release. Since the Steam Machine's front panel is designed to be easily swappable with custom designs, a low-power display fitting those dimensions is a very natural fit, but a manufacturer actually selling pre-made versions instead of leaving it to modders to wholly DIY it is much appreciated. For those unfamiliar with Jsaux, the brand produces all kinds of accessories such as the Docking Stations and Carrying Cases for Switch, Steam Deck, and other PC handhelds, and the offerings are generally competitively priced and highly rated.

Further details on pricing and launch for this product are currently unknown, but we don't expect it to take long to drop after Steam Machine is released. There's even a chance it may predate the Steam Machine's launch, though that would admittedly be a little bit silly. It's nice to see that peripheral makers are already taking initiative with Steam Machine accessories, though, particularly considering how lush the market for Steam Deck accessories already is.

Before this particular post, Jsaux also posted a poll to the Jsaux subreddit asking users if they wanted the display to be e-ink, dot matrix, or pixels (LCD). Based on the render posted now, it would seem that Jsaux narrowed the Steam Machine displays down to e-ink and LCD, though dot matrix certainly has its own niche appeal. As-is, the current LCD render recalls the intensely blocky interface of the Nintendo GameCube BIOS and its internal clock/calendar, and considering the density of "GabeCube" jokes we've seen online, we wouldn't be surprised if that is intentional.
