Japanese brand announces 15.6-inch Android tablet with 15W magnetic wireless charging

Iris Ohyama has announced a new Luca tablet designed for use around the home and workspace. The company plans to launch the tablet alongside two dedicated accessories later this month.

The tablet has a 15.6-inch LCD with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. That makes it larger than Samsung's 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra (currently available on Amazon) and Lenovo's 14.5-inch Tab Extreme, making it unusually large for a modern Android tablet.

The company lists video streaming, ebook reading and use in rooms such as the living room, kitchen and workspace among its intended uses. Widevine L1 is also supported for HD playback on compatible streaming services.

A magnetic mounting system is built into the back of the tablet, allowing it to work with dedicated accessories for different mounting positions.

One accessory is the Luca wireless charging tablet stand. It connects to a power source and holds the tablet magnetically while charging it at up to 15 W. The tablet can therefore be placed on the stand for charging without connecting a cable directly to it. The stand also offers adjustable viewing angles.

Another option is the Luca tablet ring. It attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet and can be used as a hand grip or stand. It can also be used to hang the tablet from hooks on walls or shelves.

The tablet uses a Unisoc T620 processor with 4 GB of RAM, with another 4 GB available through virtual memory expansion. It comes with 128 GB of storage and runs Android 16.

The tablet measures approximately 366 x 234 x 10.1mm (14.41 x 9.21 x 0.40 inches) and weighs about 1,083g (2.39lb). Its 8,000mAh battery supports 10W standard charging and up to 18W fast charging over USB-C.

For wired connections, the tablet has a USB-C 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0. Both the front and rear cameras have 8 MP sensors with autofocus, while audio comes through a built-in speaker.

Pricing and availability

The Luca tablet (TM15F1W74-V1H) is scheduled to go on sale in Japan on September 24. Reservations through Iris Ohyama's official Iris Plaza online store started on September 15, while the dedicated charging stand and tablet ring are also scheduled to launch on September 24.

Iris Ohyama's official Iris Plaza store currently lists the tablet at ¥71,280 (around $460). The tablet and its accessories have so far been announced for Japan, with no international availability or pricing confirmed.
