JBL launches new Pulse 6 speaker with 40W sound, IP68 rating and an illuminated handle

JBL has launched the Pulse 6, the newest model in its line of portable Bluetooth speakers with built-in LED lighting. The speaker went on sale first in China at 2,499 yuan, about $370. The Pulse 6 keeps the transparent cylindrical body used on earlier Pulse models. It adds an illuminated handle to the top of the speaker, extending the lighting beyond the main body. The speaker weighs 1.49kg and measures 131.7 x 264.1 x 106.4mm.

Audio output totals 40W, from a 30W RMS woofer and a 10W RMS tweeter. JBL rates the frequency response at 42Hz to 20kHz. The speaker uses an algorithm JBL calls AI Sound Boost, which analyses audio in real time and adjusts output to reduce distortion at higher volumes. The speaker carries an IP68 rating, meaning it is sealed against dust and can be submerged in water. JBL says the build uses PVC-free, post-consumer-recycled metal.

The 360-degree LED lighting syncs to whatever is playing. The JBL One app provides 16 lighting patterns and basic EQ controls. A built-in sensor lets users double-tap the speaker to turn on a soft glow when no music is playing. A separate Sunset Mode, set through the app, fades the light and stops the music at the end of a timer of up to 60 minutes.

For connectivity, the Pulse 6 supports Bluetooth 6.0 with SBC, AAC and LC3 codecs, along with Auracast for linking with other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers, including PartyBox speakers and PartyLight sticks. A built-in DAC and USB-C port support lossless wired audio playback from a Mac or Windows PC.

The speaker runs on a 34Wh battery rated for up to 12 hours of playback. A Playtime Boost mode adds up to two more hours. It charges over USB-C at 15W and takes about 4.5 hours to reach a full charge. The company has not announced pricing or availability for other regions, though the speaker is already listed on JBL's Cambodia website.
