LG launches new XBoom Blast speaker with 220W output and IP68 rating

Following an initial showcase earlier this year, LG has officially announced the global launch of the XBoom Blast portable Bluetooth speaker. Designed primarily for outdoor use, the new device expands the company's existing audio lineup with a focus on rugged durability, high power output, and extended battery life for activities such as beach outings, camping trips, and backyard gatherings.

At the core of the XBoom Blast is a high output speaker tuned in collaboration with music artist and tech entrepreneur will.i.am. The speaker delivers up to 220 watts of power when plugged into an AC outlet and maintains a strong 210W while running on battery power. The internal audio architecture features two 5.25-inch neodymium woofers paired with two 20mm tweeters from the Danish audio brand Peerless.

To adapt to varying acoustic environments, the speaker utilizes features such as AI Sound for real-time audio analysis, Space Calibration Pro to adjust output based on the surroundings, and Sound Field Enhance to widen the perceived soundstage.

Powering the device is a replaceable 99W battery that uses LG's Play Time Enhance technology to provide up to 36 hours of continuous audio playback on a single charge. The chassis is built to withstand outdoor elements, carrying an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance alongside verification through seven military grade durability tests. The speaker also features protective side bumpers and a durable fabric exterior to handle the rigors of travel.

The exterior design draws inspiration from a weekend duffel bag and recently earned a 2026 Red Dot Design Award. It incorporates a two-way carrying system that includes a standard top handle and a flexible rope handle, allowing users to position and transport the speaker in both vertical and horizontal orientations.

For connectivity, the XBoom Blast supports Bluetooth streaming, wired playback via USB-C, and Auracast technology for linking multiple compatible speakers wirelessly. It also features an AI Lighting system that synchronizes its Dual Ring Lighting effects with the music. The LG XBoom Blast is scheduled to begin rolling out in select markets this month, with broader availability planned for later this year. However, the brand has not shared the price yet.
