Ruka TD-1 turntable turns vinyl into wall art

Vertical turntables showcase vinyl better during playback, but often compromise on sound quality as a result. Not so with the new Ruka Studio TD-1, which aims to combine a design that is as unusual as it is modern with hi-fi sound.

Ever since the Sony PS-F5 "Flamingo," countless manufacturers have tried to emulate the success of what is arguably the most sought-after vertical turntable – with limited success. While solid vertical models are available, few can hold a candle to the charm of the Sony classic.

Ruka Studio aims to change that with the TD-1. This understated turntable can be mounted either on a stand or on a wall. When a record is loaded, the tonearm covers only a small portion of it, leaving the rest of the record visible. This really lets special-effect vinyls and picture discs shine. A magnetic puck prevents the record from falling off the player. The TD-1’s housing is made of aluminum, and playback is controlled via tactile buttons on the right side.

Despite its high price, the Ruka TD-1 is a belt-driven turntable with an MM cartridge. According to the manufacturer’s technical specifications, the speed is maintained with a deviation of less than 0.1 percent. Speakers can be connected either via a cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Power is supplied via a USB-C cable.

Pricing and availability

The Ruka TD-1 is now available for pre-order in the manufacturer’s online store. The turntable costs $1,399. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2027.
