Intel claims it offered drivers, testing, and engineering help to Pearl Abyss for Crimson Desert optimization

Crimson Desert has disappointed many PC gamers, especially those running Intel Arc GPUs. However, this isn’t just a technical hiccup; the situation has spiraled into a public exchange between Pearl Abyss and Intel. Intel claims that Pearl Abyss intentionally snubbed the company and gave it the cold shoulder when it offered support. Meanwhile, Crimson Desert reportedly runs piecemeal even on entry-level Nvidia GPUs, such as the GT 1030.
Intel has publicly announced the reason why many players on Intel’s Arc Battlemage-based GPUs can’t play Crimson Desert: the game does not support Intel’s Battlemage GPU lineup at all. In an official statement to Wccftech, Intel stated:
“We’re aware that Crimson Desert currently doesn’t launch on systems with Intel Arc GPUs, and we’re highly disappointed that players using Intel graphics hardware can’t jump into the world of Pywel at launch.”
The company further elaborated, “Over the past several years, we’ve reached out to Pearl Abyss many times to help test, validate, and optimize support for Intel graphics, providing early hardware drivers and engineering resources across multiple generations of Intel GPUs and platforms, including Alchemist, Battlemage, Meteor Lake, and Lunar Lake.”
Intel further explained its commitment to supporting Arc GPUs in Crimson Desert and shifted responsibility back to Pearl Abyss. The chipmaker said:
“For details on the choice not to enable Intel Arc support at launch, please reach out directly to Pearl Abyss. Our teams are deeply committed to helping all studios deliver the best possible experience, providing optimization tools, documentation, and direct engineering support to ensure their games run well for everyone, including tens of millions of players using Intel GPUs. We remain ready to assist Pearl Abyss in any way we can.”
To make matters worse, Pearl Abyss did not disclose the Intel GPU incompatibility until the game launched. The studio later issued a statement in its official FAQ that Intel Arc GPUs are not supported and requested that Intel Arc users refund Crimson Desert on their respective platforms.
While Intel’s Arc lineup currently holds only a small slice of the GPU market, the company’s integrated graphics via Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake, and Raptor Lake power millions of laptops and desktops. This means gamers who expect to try out the game, even on entry-level Intel integrated graphics, can’t boot it at all, leaving many frustrated.
