Intel Arc B580 vs RTX 4060: Battlemage GPU touted to perform up to 10% faster than RTX card in latest leak
The Intel Arc B580 Battlemage GPU was unveiled earlier this month. Featuring 20 Xe2 graphics cores, 12 GB of VRAM, a 192-bit wide bus, and a TDP of 190 W, Intel claims that the Arc B580 is faster than both the outgoing Arc A580 and the RTX 4060.
To that end, recent performance leaks have suggested that the Arc B580 does bring a notable performance gain over the previous gen. For instance, the Arc B580 Battlemage GPU’s leaked Geekbench OpenCL/Vulkan tests and 3DMark Time Spy scores put the card in a pretty good position to dominate the budget GPU segment of the market with its purported RTX 4060-beating performance and more than the dreaded 8 GB of memory.
Not to be left out of the prelaunch Arc B580 leaks, Moore’s Law Is Dead has revealed some rudimentary Arc B580 performance figures that the leaker allegedly obtained from some reviewers.
Intel Arc B580 Battlemage GPU allegedly beats the RTX 4060
MLID claims that the Arc B580 outperforms the RTX 4060 by 8 to 10% and performs close to the RTX 2080 Super. Additionally, the Arc B580 reportedly can also “sometimes” come close to the RX 6700 XT.
To put these figures into perspective, the RTX 4060 struggles to run heavy hitters like A Plague Tale Requiem at 60 FPS at 1080p with ultra settings. The purported 8-10% performance increase enjoyed by the Arc B580 should push the game to 60 FPS. Similarly, the RTX 4060 can't run Black Myth Wukong at 60 FPS at 1080p/high. The Arc B580 could clean that up and deliver a solid 60 FPS if Intel has managed to sort out the drivers.
Intel Arc B580 seems to perform better in synthetic tests
An interesting thing that has emerged from the recent Arc B580 leaks is that Intel’s GPU seems to perform better in synthetic tests than in actual games, assuming MLID is talking about gaming performance. Per the Arc B580’s 3DMark Time Spy Graphics score of 14,719, the card is a massive 39% faster than the RTX 4060 and 29% ahead of the RTX 2080 Super. So, MLID’s figures of around RTX 2080 Super performance and 8-10% increase in gaming performance over the RTX 4060 is a significant reduction vs synthetic tests for the Arc B580.
In the end, we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves whether such a big gap between the synthetic and gaming performance of the Arc B580 actually exists. Until then, take the performance claims and figures detailed here with a grain of salt.
