Soldered Electronics has launched a new e-Paper display via Crowd Supply. Dubbed the Inkplate 13Spectra, the ESP32-S3-based board features a massive 13.3-inch six-color E-Ink Spectra panel designed for standalone operation without a Raspberry Pi. The platform also supports battery-powered use, offering up to 40–50 days of runtime on a single charge.

This is not the first time Soldered Electronics has launched an e-Paper display. As we reported, the Inkplate 6 was released back in 2019, followed by the Inkplate 10 in 2021, and the Inkplate 2 was released in late 2022. Now they have released the Inkplate 13Spectra, a large 13.3-inch (1600 x 1200) six-color e-paper development board based on E-Ink Spectra technology and designed for low-power IoT and smart home applications.

The board integrates an ESP32-S3-WROOM-2-N32R16V module with a dual-core Xtensa LX7 processor, 32 MB flash, and 16 MB PSRAM. The module also provides Bluetooth and wifi connectivity. For storing images, the board includes a microSD card slot, along with an RTC with a battery holder for timekeeping. Expansion is enabled via three onboard Qwiic connectors and a 16-pin GPIO header, while for power, programming, and battery charging, the board includes a USB Type-C port along with dedicated boot and reset buttons.

Speaking of the battery, the company mentions that the display supports a 3.7V, 3,000 mAh Li-ion battery via an onboard JST connector and draws only 14 µA in deep sleep mode, which translates to around 40 to 50 days of backup on a single charge, even when the display updates every hour. Each update takes about 20 to 30 seconds to complete, including downloading, processing, and refreshing the display image.

The Inkplate 13Spectra is fully open-source, with hardware details, software resources, and product documentation available on Soldered’s documentation page. On the software side, it can be programmed using the Arduino IDE with popular libraries like LVGL and Inkplate, while MicroPython support is provided via dedicated Python modules available on the company’s GitHub repository. Soldered also notes that ESPHome support is currently underway and is expected to be ready by the time of delivery.

The Inkplate 13Spectra is currently available for backing on Crowd Supply. The Base Edition starts at US$309, whereas the bundle with a 3D-printed enclosure and a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery is priced at US$349. International shipping is available for $12, with orders expected to ship by June 30, 2026.
