IKEA has confirmed to the website SmartApfel that it plans to release two new smart blind products in 2024. The products will succeed the existing IKEA KADRILJ and IKEA FYTUR models, currently available worldwide. These future models are expected to have enhanced functionality compared to the current smart blinds, though further details are yet to be confirmed.
The report of the new IKEA smart blinds arrived in the wake of several rumors which suggested that IKEA could be planning to discontinue the ranges. For example, the KADRILJ has a “last chance to buy” notice on the company’s UK site. The current IKEA KADRILJ and FYRTUR are cordless and wirelessly controlled via an accompanying remote control or the IKEA Home smart app when connected to the DIRIGERA hub. The products also support Apple HomeKit and Siri voice commands.
The main difference between the two models is the ability to block out light, with the KADRILJ filtering light to reduce screen reflections and the FYRTUR blocking out light completely. Other smart blinds already available from IKEA include the IKEA TREDANSEN and IKEA PRAKTLYSING models, released in 2022. These models have similar functionality with a pleated design. It is unclear whether or when updated versions of these models could go on sale.
