Rumor | Huawei will skip launching the Mate 50 series of phablets in 2021

Huawei introduced its first Mate phablet in 2013 and has not looked back since. It has given rise to a history peppered with positive critical reception and ultra-premium Porsche-themed variants along the way. However, according to a new report from the Chinese media, it may have ground to a halt in 2021.

Earlier rumors suggested that the OEM would launch successors to the Mate 40 series, from the vanilla to the most premium RS variants, albeit as a very limited run and possibly as Chinese-market exclusives. However, the latest leak indicate that the OEM may not release these models at all.

The reasons for this potential product-cycle disruption are not completely clear as yet. However, should they prove accurate, they are most likely connected to the significant impact on Huawei's mobile device business inflicted by the OEM's placement on the official US blacklist.

In addition, Huawei might be inclined to prioritize its more immient P50 line of premium smartphones instead. Meanwhile, the company reportedly plans to devote its resources to support for current customers.
