After releasing the P50 series, Huawei is working on its next flagship, the Mate 50 Pro. New information now indicates that, just like the P50 series, the Mate 50 could be equipped with a 4G variant of Qualcomm's chipset—in this case, the Snapdragon 898.

Huawei launched the P50 series a few months ago and equipped some models with a Snapdragon 888 against all expectations. It appears that may not be a one-off decision, if a new Mate 50 Pro-related leak is any indication.

According to leaker Digital Chat Station, Huawei is testing out a Snapdragon 898 for the upcoming Mate 50 Pro. The tipster clarifies that the Snapdragon 898 in testing is a 4G model, just like we saw on the Huawei P50 series. The chipset is said to bear the model number SM8425, indicating that it's a variant of the Snapdragon 898 (SM8450).

While the source doesn't name-drop the Mate 50 Pro specifically, it states that it is a business flagship. Huawei's Mate series is its business-focused lineup, while the P series focuses more on cameras. Supposedly, the device in question will land sometime in Q1 next year, which would be a deviation from Huawei's typcical release schedule for the Mate series. It also corroborates rumors from earlier in the year that the P50 would be Huawei's only flagship for the year.
