The Huawei Mate 50 series has now been confirmed to be in Huawei's plan for release. Official sources fail to provide specific information but word in the form of leaks has now provided a look at the expected hardware and launch date of the Mate 50 phones, with one notable takeaway being a tipped Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.

The Huawei Mate 50 series is coming. At this point, there can be little to no doubt about that. After choosing to release just the P50 lineup in 2021, a Huawei VP, Li Changzhu, has now confirmed on Weibo that the company plans to release the Huawei Mate 50 series but not now. New leaks from China also provide some much-needed information on what to expect from the phones.

According to leaker Bald Panda, the Huawei Mate 50 series will make its debut in the second half of the year. The leaker specifies June or July but claims that delays could be a possibility, no doubt due to Huawei's tenuous supply chain position. Another Chinese source, It's Fat, corroborates the launch time-frame information.

It's Fat also claims that the Mate 50 Pro series could debut with a TSMC-made version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. That would be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. On the flip side, the regular Mate 50 could get the current Samsung-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Camera-wise, the Mate 50 series is tipped to share a setup either identical or on par with the Honor Magic 3 Pro's lineup.
