Huawei pushes major changes to Watch 4 Pro with HarmonyOS 4 upgrade

Huawei has issued a major update for the Watch 4 Pro following its late spring release alongside the cheaper Watch 4. Reportedly, the update introduces HarmonyOS 4, which reached the Watch GT 4 a few weeks ago. Presumably, an equivalent update for the Watch 4 will arrive soon, given the hardware similarities that exist between it and the Watch 4 Pro.

At any rate, the latter is now eligible for HarmonyOS 4 through firmware version 4.0.0.191 (SP36C432E2R1P2). For reference, the update is said to be a 772 MB download, which is downloaded first on a paired smartphone and then transferred to your Watch 4 Pro. Thus, it could take a while for the upgrade process from HarmonyOS 3 to finish.

Please note that Huawei tends to release milestone OS updates in batches. In other words, Huawei may not push a notification to download HarmonyOS 4 for a while yet. Also, Huawei recommends updating its Health app before attempting to start the HarmonyOS 4 update process. According to Huawei Blog, Huawei has included the following improvements in its HarmonyOS 4 (SP36C432E2R1P2) changelog:

• Adds the pre-installed Astronaut watch face.
• Adds interval training mode.
• Adds the heart rate announcement function.
• Adds the training metronome function.
• Allows you to import and export routes.
• Allows you to synchronize settings of specific watch faces between standard mode and ultra-long battery life mode.
• Adds support for voice notifications during training in Turkish, Russian, French, Japanese, Malay and Thai.
• Supports displaying app names in grid mode.
• Improves other features and user experience.
