Garmin: Several smartwatches, including Fenix, Epix and Venu 3, may get skin temperature measurement function via software update
The various wearables from Garmin offer a wide range of functions, although these differ from model to model. Garmin is behind the competition in matters of skin temperature measurement, which has not been possible in its watches thus far. Now, clues are emerging that owners of different Garmin wearables may be able to enjoy this new feature.
Hints to a corresponding feature in the new Fenix and Epix smartwatches have also been revealed. Specifically, a new beta update for the smartwatches entails the creation of a folder called SkinTemp. However, this folder does not appear on all Fenix 7 and current Epix models, but only on the Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix Pro.
What distinguishes the Pro models from the already extensively well-equipped Fenix and Epix basic models is that the Pro variants come with an Elevate 5 sensor, an advanced sensor that measures, among other things, heart rate. This sensor is not only found in the Pro models, but also in the Venu 3 and VivoActive 5 smartwatches.
As Marko Maslakovic describes in detail in a post on Gadgets & Wearables, the skin temperature measurement was also observed in leaked images of the Venu 3, but Garmin has apparently decided not to roll out the feature yet. So it remains unclear when the skin temperature measurement function will actually be usable on the various smartwatches. Garmin itself is yet to comment on the matter.
