Full HD debut. Quad-core, Full HD screen, aluminum casing, docking port for a keyboard and other features are united in the MediaPad 10. Is it a successful blend of high-tech components with a good chance of high sales figures? Or is only a weak light in the masses?

Linked. The Huawei MediaPad 10 Link not only enables connecting via Wi-Fi but also via mobile internet. Besides that, it belongs to the more affordable 10-inch tablets. Does this inevitably mean that compromises have to be made or can the MediaPad 10 Link also cater for demanding users?

A niche tablet. In a more and more saturated market, tablets with telephone capability always count as niche products. The Chinese manufacturer Huawei wants to change that. With the MediaPad 7 Vogue, it throws into the mix a 7-inch candidate that not only surfs and plays films, but also serves as a fully capable phone replacement.

Nexus rival. The Huawei MediaPad X1 7.0 is designed to vie with the Google Nexus 7, and with its in-house processor and high-resolution LTPS display, it seems to be an interesting competitor in the 7-inch segment. The LTE tablet leaves a good impression in many respects; however, it shows some flaws in terms of software.

The Huawei MediaPad X1 is a bit of an oddball. It's a 7-inch phone, and it only makes sense if you consider it as such given that rival 7-inch tablets are available for less than half the price. It seems like Samsung may already have some of the MediaPad X1's potential sewn up with the Note series of phones, but it is a promising device regardless.

It’s not a total wash, thankfully, as the MediaPad X2 can be picked up through various channels on Amazon for the starting price of $413 – down from the $700 price point it’s normally attached with. Thinking more about that $413 price, it surely offers some value by being high spec’d, long lasting with its battery, and producing some slick shots with its camera. Oh yeah, it’s also a dual-SIM device with expandable storage and a premium design that makes the $413 cost a steal.

Huawei MediaPad M2
The Huawei MediaPad M2 is an 8” tablet with a weight of 0.33 kg, which carries the promise of a reasonable media consumption device. Inspired by classical music, this tablet brings about the theme through providing the best-in-class audio with its dual speakers, large chambers, SWS 2.0 (Super Wide Sound) and Clari-Fi music restoration technology by Harman Kardon. This technology comes with a PA power amplifier, which allows the creation of clear audio even when amplified. This gives an enhanced experience for users especially when watching movies or listening to music at high volumes. The theme of classical music can also be seen in the model's sleek all-metal design, with lines running through the edges and sides of the tablet imitating the look of a music sheet. Besides, this model also sports a 1920 x 1200 Full HD IPS display which is tested to be 67 % sharper than average tablets. Coupled with its Color Plus, Sun View and Eye Care features, the MediaPad M2 is sure to be a vivid visual delight for users regardless of location and brightness level. This model is powered with Huawei's own Kirin 930 octa core processor clocked at 2 GHz, which is above average and translates to better multi-tasking capabilities and lower power consumption. It is also packaged with Android 5.1 Lollipop, 16 GB internal storage, and a 4800 mAh battery that can last up to 30 hours. The storage capacity can be expanded by up to 128 with a microSD card. With such competences, it is no wonder that the MediaPad M2 is a part of Huawei's flagship series.Specifications

Metal head. Unlike its precursor, Huawei's MediaPad M2 8.0 is now covered in a metal casing. Once again, the tablet scores with a potent HiSilicon Kirin Octa-core processor, decent HD IPS touchscreen, and great battery life. The latest Android 5.1 operating system and fast Wi-Fi round off the couch surfer - a good deal for around 280 Euros (~$306).

Multimedia Metal. With the MediaPad M2 10, Huawei has managed to launch a multimedia tablet on the market that has an edge on other devices in this price range, such as high-resolution cameras. We will prove that that is not the tablet's only virtue in this test.

If you like the thought of the iPad Pro 9.7's stellar sound, metal build, and Apple Pencil compatibility, but don't fancy the price, the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 is on a very short list of alternatives. It sounds great, feels pretty good, and its M-Pen stylus has a fair amount going for it. All of this for a surprisingly low price. But the very best tablets have at their core a slick UI, sharp display, and flawless performance - and the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 isn't quite up to scratch in these vital areas.

Whilst the camera wasn’t as good as the Leica unit on the Huawei P9, the addition of that stylus was something I actually really liked in this Premium model. If you choose the 16GB standard model you do have to realise that there’s no expandable storage and that’s pretty important if you’re a media consumer – something this device is really built for. Out of the two, the Premium model would be my choice. The sound quality and the included stand made it into a portable entertainment centre which was really enjoyable to use and a great TV-replacement for your bedroom or elsewhere.

The Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 isn't a bad Android tablet, but its internal hardware doesn't live up to the slender design on the exterior. If you want them all, then the well-made case, stylus and additional storage capacity, is £80 well spent on the deluxe model. Although it's a pity you can't get the storage without the extras, if you don't want them.

I’m slightly torn as to how to judge the Huawei MediaPad M2 10. On one hand, I think it’s a genuinely beautiful device, with a case that enhances the look, rather than being thrown in as an ugly afterthought. I even find the stylus a handy tool for note-taking and text recognition. When I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 back in 2012, this is the kind of thing I had in mind. Samsung didn’t quite live up to the promise for me back then, but this, four years on, most definitely does.

Tablets need to do a lot to set them apart from the crowd, and Huawei seems to have achieved this with the MediaPad M2. It won’t be for everyone, but the super-impressive speakers and combination of the stylus and pressure-sensitive display are great features. It also doesn’t come in too hard on the wallet. The top-end model comes with the stylus, LTE, 3GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage will cost $469, while $349 gets you 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage.

At its CES 2016 press conference, Huawei went on to showcase three devices - a phone, a tablet, and a smartwatch. The Mate 8 phone sees its international launch, the Mediapad M2 10 is a new device entirely, while the Huawei Watch Elegant and Jewel are two new editions of the Huawei Watch this time with the ladies in mind specifically. Huawei spoke at length how much its brand awareness has gone up around the world and that it has become the #3 smartphone maker worldwide. With ambitions to jump over Apple and take #2, of course. Flagships like the Huawei Mate 8 and the Nexus 6P will help raise awareness and push sales even further.

Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd. is a Chinese telecommunications company and hardware manufacturer founded in 1987 and headquartered in Shenzhen. Huawei is a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Huawei provides end-to-end solutions for telecommunications networks, devices, and smartphones, as well as storage, servers, networking, and cloud computing enterprise solutions and products.
In 2014, Huawei established the Honor subsidiary brand under which certain smartphone lines are sold. The Huawei name is usually not listed for these products.

7.00:
This display format is in the mid-range for smartphones. It offers a compromise between good visibility, details and resolution on the screen, and you can still fit it into trouser pockets.
8.00:
Large smartphones and a few small tablets are available for this display size. Unlike most smartphones, you can see more on the screen, more details and use larger resolutions. Such formats are better for people with defective vision. However, such devices are no longer easy to fit in a pocket, and they are probably not quite light either.
10.00:
This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
No weight comment found (one expected)!
84.39%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
