Reviews for the Huawei MatePad 11.5 S
With its PaperMatte display, the MatePad 11.5S offers a special coating which, in combination with pen support, should ensure a first-class writing experience. However, the matte screen of the Huawei tablet also reveals certain weaknesses.

I want to say that the device has almost no flaws. They are not significant and certainly fewer than one might think. First of all, I have reservations about the charging. In my opinion, it is too slow because, compared to smartphones with fast charging, 2-3 hours to fully charge the battery is clearly too long. I must also mention the issues with the stylus, which initially had trouble connecting. It seems to work somewhat erratically. I miss having a traditional charger for the stylus. The absence of Google services could be seen as a downside, but to be honest, there are no issues with the apps, and it’s simply because the Americans are scared. The camera is somewhat weaker, but I understand the concept of the device. There are far more advantages. First and foremost, the excellent display, which many manufacturers could envy.

The Huawei MatePad 11.5"S is a smaller sibling of the 13in MatePad Pro, but despite the much lower price point and slightly lower-specced internals, it gives up very little to Huawei's flagship tablet when it comes to the user experience. Of course, Google suite access issues and other barriers in some Western countries continue to affect Huawei tablets and phones, but for hobbyist artists or designers, these are small issues. You won't do much pro-level work, but for drawing, note-taking, casual gaming and entertainment, the beautiful matte screen on this MatePad will do a fantastic job.

Overall, the HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 S checks so many boxes on being a good tablet. It offers an above-average performance, a display that’s satisfying to the touch, and all the bells and whistles that are absolutely useful to have in this form factor. If you’re looking to get a tablet yourself, the MatePad 11.5 S is an incredibly good starting point. The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition starts at PHP 24,999 (8GB+256GB) for the unit only. A bundle with a physical keyboard is available for PHP 29,999. Stuff like NearLink for seamless connection with the stylus and keyboard accessories, as well as the new GoPaint app are all welcome additions. Especially if you’re someone who likes to draw or to take notes a lot, then this tablet will feel right close to home.

The HUAWEI MatePad 11.5"S PaperMatte Edition also lets you capture audio with written notes in HUAWE Notes, has a large 8800mAh battery, and feels very light despite its size. There is also a HUAWEI Kirin 9000 WL chipset, which ensures flagship performance for productivity and entertainment. Interested? If you’re looking for a tablet that will primarily be used for illustration, and Apple’s iPads don’t appeal, then the Huawei MatePad 11.5S PaperMatte edition is easy to recommend. The combination of an ultra-low-latency stylus, a gorgeous paper-like display and the excellent GoPaint app makes for an unrivalled Android sketching experience. At just £349, it’s pretty great value, too. If you’re looking for a general-purpose tablet for entertainment and productivity, it becomes less appealing. On one hand, the display and speakers are great, but the processor isn’t the best for gaming, and you’ll need to use workarounds to use Gmail and get your YouTube fix.

I haven’t spent long enough with the MatePad 11.5S PaperMatte edition to come to any real conclusions, but it seems like it could be an excellent option for digital artists seeking an affordable Android tablet. As it stands, I’ve spent about half an hour doodling with it, so many aspects of the performance and display quality remain a mystery. As a tool for illustration, though, it might prove to be one of the best in its class. I’m looking forward to putting it to the test.

It’s still relatively early days for Huawei’s PaperMatte display tech, but I wouldn’t be surprised if makers of those expensive eInk note-taking tablets are looking over their shoulders. This second-gen panel looks the business, even if you’re standing in sunshine. The textured finish does a convincing impression of actual paper, too. Creative types that love to write or draw are certain to love it. They’ll have to buy the M-Pencil separately, of course, and navigate the minefield that continues to be Huawei’s spotty app support. But this still looks like a lot of tablet for your cash. It’s slim and light, with plenty of official accessories to turn it into a more productive device. If battery life and performance are on the same level as similarly-priced rivals, it could be one to watch when it goes on sale from the 18th of June.

The third cluster contains two HiSilicon cores (0x0D02), each operating at a maximum of 2,487 MHz.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
11.50":
This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.
