If you’re looking to upgrade from your MatePad 11 2021, this is definitely not worth it. There just isn’t that much of a difference to justify it. However, if you’re looking for an iPad alternative, this is a great candidate, especially for those who really want the Apple Pencil experience. The MatePad 11 2023 is great for media consumption and media creation, so long as you’re flexible with what apps you use. The only thing holding it back is HarmonyOS, but it might not even be a problem if you're already used to HarmonyOS. However, if this is your first Huawei device and/or you don't plan on buying other Huawei devices to enter the ecosystem, you might want to think about whether having GMS missing is a deal breaker for you.

After the success of Huawei MatePad 11 (2021), the company released its new version known as Huawei MatePad 11 (2023) with a price tag of $335 (Rs 27,590 in India) approx. The tablet equips a Li-Po 7250 mAh battery capacity with 22.5W wired and 5W reverse charging support. As for color variants, you can choose between Blue, Black, White, and Purple colors. As for the display aspect, you will get a tall 11.0 inches IPS LCD with 120Hz refresh rate support. The Huawei MatePad 11 (2023) has no sim connectivity and is powered by HarmonyOS 3.1. Under the hood, you will get a 7nm – Qualcomm SM8250-AC Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, and the other variants come with a 7nm+ Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 5G. The device will be available in 6GB/8GB RAM configurations with 128GB/256GB internal storage with a dedicated card slot. In terms of the camera setup, you will receive a single 13MP rear camera, while an 8MP selfie lens is also present on the front screen.

I want to say that the device has almost no flaws. They are not significant and certainly fewer than one might think. First of all, I have reservations about the charging. In my opinion, it is too slow because, compared to smartphones with fast charging, 2-3 hours to fully charge the battery is clearly too long. I must also mention the issues with the stylus, which initially had trouble connecting. It seems to work somewhat erratically. I miss having a traditional charger for the stylus. The absence of Google services could be seen as a downside, but to be honest, there are no issues with the apps, and it’s simply because the Americans are scared. The camera is somewhat weaker, but I understand the concept of the device. There are far more advantages. First and foremost, the excellent display, which many manufacturers could envy.

It’s sleek, portable, and the 11.5-inch matte-finish screen is an absolute treat, seriously reducing reflections and providing more of a traditional pen-and-paper experience when paired with a stylus. The performance is solid for a tablet of its price, and the battery life is much better than last year’s model. The problem is that big ol’ elephant, and there’s no getting around it. Huawei’s lack of Google Play Services essentially means you need to turn into a one-person IT department just to get it to reach a similar baseline to what other Android tablets offer out of the box – and even then, there are still limitations on what you can do and the apps you can install. Huawei’s first-party alternative apps are well polished and do a decent job of closing the gap, but if you rely on Google services like Docs for work or school, it’s effectively dead on arrival.

For the money, if the software wasn’t an issue, I’d say you should put the MatePad 11.5 S (2026) on your short list. It’s a wonderful piece of hardware. The screen is bright and vivid, the stylus works well, and you can get the whole lot, with the keyboard case, for under £500. That makes the Huawei MatePad 11.5 S (2026) a veritable bargain – although it isn’t quite as cheap as the last-generation Honor Magic Pad 2. The trouble is, as with all Huawei mobile hardware, that finding and installing apps isn’t as straightforward as it would be with Google Play installed, and that makes this tablet tough to recommend wholeheartedly. If you’re willing to tinker with sideloading and third-party app stores, then have at it. For most folk, though, you’d probably be better off with a tablet that officially supports Google Play.

How good is the MatePad 11.5 S? I could sketch and draw with the GoPaint app and the M-Pencil all day long; for me, the price is worth that alone. But for work purposes, I depend on Google and Android apps – not having Google Docs, regardless of APKs, is problematic. But it does get better every year. However, the PaperMatte display is gorgeous, the processor (whatever it really is) is fast enough for what you'll use it for, and the keyboard is actually quite good. All in all, at this price tag, the MatePad 11.5 S is a thoroughly good business tablet and or illustration tool.

How good is the MatePad 11.5 S? I could sketch and draw with the GoPaint app and the M-Pencil all day long; for me, the price is worth that alone. Huawei: Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd. is a Chinese telecommunications company and hardware manufacturer founded in 1987 and headquartered in Shenzhen. Huawei is a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Huawei provides end-to-end solutions for telecommunications networks, devices, and smartphones, as well as storage, servers, networking, and cloud computing enterprise solutions and products.

In 2014, Huawei established the Honor subsidiary brand under which certain smartphone lines are sold. The Huawei name is usually not listed for these products.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Qualcomm Adreno 650: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 640 in the Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers 50% more compute units (ALUs). For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2020.

Qualcomm Maleoon 920A: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets, integrated in the HiSilicon Kirin T92C. Unfortunately, Huawei has not provided any detailed information. What is certain is that it does not support hardware-based ray tracing and only the older Vulkan 1.0 standard.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 870: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in mid 2020 and manufactured in 7 nm at TSMC (improved N7P). Integrates one Prime Core based on a ARM Cortex-A77 architecture clocked at up to 3.2 GHz. Three more performance cores are also based on the A77 but clock up to 2.42 GHz. Furthermore, four energy saving cores are integrated that are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture and clock at up to 1.8 GHz.

Kirin 9000W: ARM-based 12-core SoC. Huawei does not reveal any information about the SoC. The little information that is available comes from benchmarks and system analysis tools. The CPU consists of three clusters with a total of 12 cores. The power-saving cluster has four ARM Cortex-A510 cores, each operating at up to 1,530 MHz, while six other cores use unspecified cores from HiSilicon (0x0D42) and clock at up to 2,150 MHz. The third cluster contains two HiSilicon cores (0x0D02), each operating at a maximum of 2,487 MHz.

Kirin T82: ARM-based SoC with 12 cores (2x HiSilicon Main up to 2.3 GHz, 6x HiSilicon Mid up to 2.05 GHz, 4x HiSilicon up to 1.3 GHz).

Kirin T92C: ARM-based SoC with 9 cores (2x HiSilicon Main up to 2.30 GHz, 4x HiSilicon Mid up to 2 GHz, 3x HiSilicon up to 1.6 GHz).
