Multimedia Metal. With the MediaPad M2 10, Huawei has managed to launch a multimedia tablet on the market that has an edge on other devices in this price range, such as high-resolution cameras. We will prove that that is not the tablet's only virtue in this test.

If you like the thought of the iPad Pro 9.7's stellar sound, metal build, and Apple Pencil compatibility, but don't fancy the price, the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 is on a very short list of alternatives. It sounds great, feels pretty good, and its M-Pen stylus has a fair amount going for it. All of this for a surprisingly low price. But the very best tablets have at their core a slick UI, sharp display, and flawless performance - and the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 isn't quite up to scratch in these vital areas.

Whilst the camera wasn’t as good as the Leica unit on the Huawei P9, the addition of that stylus was something I actually really liked in this Premium model. If you choose the 16GB standard model you do have to realise that there’s no expandable storage and that’s pretty important if you’re a media consumer – something this device is really built for. Out of the two, the Premium model would be my choice. The sound quality and the included stand made it into a portable entertainment centre which was really enjoyable to use and a great TV-replacement for your bedroom or elsewhere.

The Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 isn't a bad Android tablet, but its internal hardware doesn't live up to the slender design on the exterior. If you want them all, then the well-made case, stylus and additional storage capacity, is £80 well spent on the deluxe model. Although it's a pity you can't get the storage without the extras, if you don't want them.

I’m slightly torn as to how to judge the Huawei MediaPad M2 10. On one hand, I think it’s a genuinely beautiful device, with a case that enhances the look, rather than being thrown in as an ugly afterthought. I even find the stylus a handy tool for note-taking and text recognition. When I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 back in 2012, this is the kind of thing I had in mind. Samsung didn’t quite live up to the promise for me back then, but this, four years on, most definitely does.

There’s been a bit of drought of new tablets recently so it’s great to see something interesting from Huawei. The MediaPad M2 10.0 has some decent specs for the price, although we’d suggest getting the model with more memory and storage.

Tablets need to do a lot to set them apart from the crowd, and Huawei seems to have achieved this with the MediaPad M2. It won’t be for everyone, but the super-impressive speakers and combination of the stylus and pressure-sensitive display are great features. It also doesn’t come in too hard on the wallet. The top-end model comes with the stylus, LTE, 3GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage will cost $469, while $349 gets you 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage.

At its CES 2016 press conference, Huawei went on to showcase three devices - a phone, a tablet, and a smartwatch. The Mate 8 phone sees its international launch, the Mediapad M2 10 is a new device entirely, while the Huawei Watch Elegant and Jewel are two new editions of the Huawei Watch this time with the ladies in mind specifically. Huawei spoke at length how much its brand awareness has gone up around the world and that it has become the #3 smartphone maker worldwide. With ambitions to jump over Apple and take #2, of course. Flagships like the Huawei Mate 8 and the Nexus 6P will help raise awareness and push sales even further.

Model: The MediaPad M2 10 inch is a solid and elegant tablet for demanding usage. Huawei has impressed with this ultra-thin and premium build quality. At just 7.35 mm thick, the metallic unibody of the MediaPad M2 10 inch feels good in the hand. There are two colors to choose from; luxurious gold and moonlight silver. Its 10.1 inch IPS display features FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) with superb color saturation and brightness. Coupled with a 4-speaker setup that separates treble and bass, the MediaPad M2 10 inch makes for a perfect portable multimedia device.
The premium edition includes a stylus with high accuracy and 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. The MediaPad M2 10 comes with a 13 MP autofocus f/2.0 rear camera and a 5 MP front shooter.
