Huawei MateBook X Pro launching in U.S. for $900 after gift card rebates
Huawei is aiming directly for the jugular in the crowded flagship laptop space populated by the Dell XPS and Apple MacBook families with its $1200 to $1500 USD MateBook X Pro. To sweeten the deal, users who purchase through Amazon or NewEgg will receive a $300 gift card applicable to the respective store to make the MateBook X Pro even cheaper than the aforementioned alternatives from Dell or Apple. The manufacturer is hell-bent on undercutting the competition without necessarily cutting corners in terms of design quality or hardware features.
The MateBook X Pro price advantage can be attributed to one notable factor. Unlike Dell or Apple, Huawei is focusing on far fewer SKUs while foregoing lower-end configurations that may house Core i3 or 4 GB RAM options. Thus, even the entry-level MateBook X Pro SKU with its Core i5 CPU and 8 GB of RAM will be superior to the entry-level XPS 13 SKU of a similar price. Core i3 and 4 GB RAM configurations are seen as unattractive to Huawei as they can mislead consumers to purchase weak specifications on an otherwise flashy high-end chassis just because of the lower starting price.
The MateBook X Pro supplants last year's MateBook X by throwing in a brand-new design with Intel 8th gen U-class CPUs, GeForce MX150 options, a higher resolution 3:2 touchscreen, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, and much more. See our full review of the new MateBook X Pro here.
