Huawei and its Honor sub-brand have received some flak for their update policies. The company claimed it would not be sending out the Oreo update to the Honor 8—Honor's 2016 flagship—and the media outcry due to that was substantial. Thankfully, it would seem the company has made a U-turn, as its older devices are finally receiving the Oreo update.
The update being sent out is a beta, and is exclusive to the Chinese models. The devices in question are the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9, Honor 8, Honor 6X, and the Honor Note 8. Users outside China should be able to change their firmware to the Chinese one, and sign up for the beta. That isn't advisable, though.
The Honor 7X received its update earlier in the week as promised. The company also claimed the aforementioned devices would get their updates in May, so while this isn't a complete fulfillment of that claim—it's only a beta, after all—it's something for owners of those devices to hold on to, especially after it seemed they would be abandoned.
