Android Oreo currently being beta tested on the Huawei Mate 9
OEMs like Samsung, Nokia, and OnePlus are already testing Oreo for their current flagships, so it comes as no surprise that Huawei has something similar in the works. An exclusive piece on XDA has revealed details of the upcoming EMUI 6 that's currently being beta tested for the Mate 9.
Here are the changes the new software update will bring:
- Screen Resolution: Allows you to switch your display resolution between HD and FHD. There was a Smart Resolution on EMUI 5.1—it's also here—but that one was a superficial change at best and doesn't actually affect the rendered resolution.
- Navigation Bar Toggle: Allows you to hide the navigation bar until you swipe from the bottom up.
- Bluetooth Audio Codec Switching: Allows you to change between various codecs like the aptX and aptX HD,
- Substratum Support: Substratum looks to be a direct replacement for Cyanogen's renowned theme engine, and that's mostly because it isn't as restricted. EMUI 6 comes with Substratum support, which allows you to theme your UI and apps.
We expect all last-gen flagships to get the update when it's ready.

I like tech, simple as. Half the time, you can catch me writing snarky sales copy. The rest of the time, I'm either keeping readers abreast with the latest happenings in the mobile tech world or watching football. I worked as both a journo and freelance content writer for a couple of years before joining the Notebookcheck team in 2017. Feel free to shoot me some questions on Twitter or Reddit if it so tickles thine fancy.
