The rather boring market of Android Go handsets has just welcomed a new device. Huawei's first such device was silently unveiled in Ghana, and now it is already available for sale in South Africa. Known as the Y3 2018, this new basic smartphone retails for the same price as the Nokia 1 - the equivalent of US$80.
The Huawei Y3 2018 is a rather standard Android Go handset, so none of its technical specs should come as a surprise. These are its highlights: 5-inch touchscreen with 854 x 480 pixels, quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, 2 MP front camera, 8 MP main image snapper, 2,280 mAh battery, as well as micro USB, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity.
Although Huawei could have made an effort at least in the color options department, there is nothing special like blue, green, or maybe even orange here. The Huawei Y3 2018 can only be acquired in white, grey, and gold. Obviously, those in need of more personalization options can always pick a smartphone case
At almost 0.4 pounds, this handset is quite heavy for a 5-inch device, but this shouldn't be a problem. After all, there isn't much one can ask from a sub-US$90 handset. Fortunately, Android Go should be able to turn this device's usage into a bearable experience — if not a completely fluid and pleasant one, of course.
