Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024: High-end laptop announced for select global markets with Intel Meteor Lake processors
Huawei launched its sleek MateBook X Pro 2024 laptop in China earlier this year. Its design, aesthetic and marketing material pivots it as a MacBook Air competitor. However, a closer look at its spec sheet reveals it trounces the Apple offering in many aspects. For starters, it comes with a touch-enabled 14.2-inch 3.1K (3120 x 2080) flexible OLED panel clocked at 120 Hz, peak brightness of 1,000 nits and delta E > 0.1. While future MacBooks will eventually catch up, the Pro models are likely to receive the OLED treatment first.
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 weighs just 980 grams and is available the three colourways: Black, White and Morandi Blue. Like the MacBook Air, it comes with a CNC milled unibody chassis. On the insides, it uses a three-segment PCB design, freeing up more space for fans and core components. The actual fans have also been redesigned for 22% more airflow and reduced noise compared to last-gen models.
Moving on to its innards, the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 is powered by Intel's new Meteor Lake processors. You can pick between an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and Core Ultra 7 155H CPUs. However, the latter's availability has not been confirmed yet, at least in the global market. Given its compact form factor, one has to make do with the Intel Arc iGPU, with no dedicated alternatives. You can configure your Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 with up to 32 GB of unspecified (probably LPDDR5X) memory and 2 TB storage.
Connectivity options on the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 are in line with a high-end laptop, including 2x Thunderbolt 4.0 ports and 1x USB-C port. The lack of a USB-A port is understandable, given the laptop's overall aesthetic as a MacBook alternative. Interestingly, the laptop's Wi-Fi compatibility maxes out at Wi-Fi 6E and not Wi-Fi 7. Furthermore, the functionality may not be available at launch everywhere but Huawei says it can be switched on with a software update.
Lastly, the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 draws power from a 72 Wh battery that supports 90 Watt fast charging over USB-C. However, some regions could get a 65 Watt brick in the box, and not 90 Watt. Its 1080p webcam comes with a physical privacy shutter and Windows Hello support. The laptop also comes with some interesting software features such as SuperHub, which is essentially a glorified clipboard that lets you transfer text and images across applications. Then there's Super Device, Huawei's alternative to the famed Apple ecosystem. It lets you use a tablet/smartphone as an extension of your laptop. Plus, you can project your tablet/phone's screen to your laptop and control it from there.
