Apple's plans for updating its MacBook and iPad lineup with OLED screens have long been rumored. A recent report by Taiwanese publication ET News sheds more light on the company's planned timeline for these display upgrades, starting with OLED iPad Pros next year.

Rumors surrounding Apple's intentions to integrate OLED screens into its MacBook and iPad lineup have gained further traction with a recent report from Taiwanese publication ET News, as pointed out by MacRumors, revealing the company's expected timeline for these updates.

OLED displays, renowned for their superior color reproduction, remarkable contrast ratios with per-pixel dimming for true blacks, increased efficiency, and thinner designs, are poised to bring substantial enhancements to Apple's displays.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is slated to lead the Mac lineup's OLED transition in 2025, followed by the 14-inch MacBook Pro in 2026. Apple's commitment extends to the MacBook Air, with both sizes expected to embrace OLED displays in 2026.

For the iPad lineup, Apple is projected to introduce OLED screens to the iPad Pro models in 2024, while the iPad Mini and the 10.9-inch iPad Air are set to undergo the transformation in 2026. The rumored 12.9-inch iPad Air, initially launching with an LCD display next year, is earmarked for an OLED upgrade in 2027. Notably, the iPad Mini is anticipated to feature a larger 8.7-inch screen. While the iPad Pros will boast LTPO panels, supporting 120Hz refresh rates with Apple's ProMotion technology, the iPad Air and iPad Mini are expected to adopt LTPS panels without such capability.

Interestingly, Apple reportedly plans to enhance the iPad Pros with a next-generation panel featuring improved efficiency through Color Filter Encapsulation (CoE). This enhancement could potentially pave the way for under-display camera technology implementation in the future, although that is unclear at this time.

While OLED displays are universally praised for their myriad benefits, concerns about burn-in, especially for MacBook displays dealing with static elements like menu bars and control panels, loom large. How Apple addresses this potential issue remains a key aspect to look out for as these OLED upgrades approach fruition.
