Huawei Mate 50 series reservations reach an important milestone well ahead of the new flagship smartphones' launch
Huawei may have shown some of its former spark in setting its Mate 50 launch event to very nearly clash with that of the iPhone 14 series. Both sets of presumably high-end mobile devices are believed to come with variants of throwback notched displays, OLED panels and potentially upgraded cameras with signature in-house tuning.
Then again, the Mate 50 series members are also likely to emerge without 5G connectivity out of the box. Nevertheless, Huawei has reportedly recorded a healthy level of interest in its long-delayed flagship phablets. They have apparently attracted at least 1 million (if not 1.5 million) reservations via their official Chinese Vmall page.
This portal, which has been open since August 22, 2022, gives no hint as to which Mate 50-series variant (of which there are said to be 4: the Mate 50E; the vanilla 50; the 50 Pro and the top-end, Porsche Designed 50 RS) has gotten the most reservations thus far.
In addition, should the phones really have grabbed all those eyeballs already, the numbers may not necessarily translate to pre-orders until prices for the new smartphones are announced. Nevertheless, it seems Huawei still has enough brand-recognition to stave off death as a smartphone OEM for at least another year.
