Two years after the debut of its last Mate flagship, the Mate 40 series, Huawei is set to return with a new generation of premium, business-oriented smartphones. The Huawei Mate 50 series is coming, and has now been confirmed for a September 6 launch event in China.

Huawei's Mate series represents the company's absolute best at making complete, premium smartphones with all the bells and whistles. After the launch of the Mate 40 series two years ago, Huawei is set to return with the Mate 50 lineup, and has now confirmed a launch date.

As revealed on its official handle, the Huawei Mate 50 series is coming shortly. The flagship phones have now been confirmed to make their debut on September 6 in China. "Dawn out, meet at the peak," the company shared on Weibo. "On September 6th, #HUAWEIMate50# series and full-scene new product autumn conference, invite you to witness." Or something similar when translating from Chinese anyway.

A September 6 launch date strongly indicates that the Huawei Mate 50 series will debut before Apple's iPhone 14 series. The Apple smartphones have been mooted to launch on September 7, and this could be strategic positioning by Huawei to beat Apple to the punch, although it's hard to see how that could be beneficial.

In any case, the Huawei Mate 50 series will play host to three devices at least: the Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 Porsche Edition or Mate 50 RS. A Mate 50 X has been rumored, too. Premium Snapdragon 4G chipsets are expected, as well as XMAGE branding on the phones' cameras.
