Honor has revealed that it has now kicked off its Android 15 Beta Program. The new beta program starts with the Magic6 Pro and Magic V2, despite the latter only recently being eligible for Android 14.

Roughly a month has passed since Honor recruited testers for its Magic V2 Android 14 Beta Program. Seemingly, Honor has now started distributing a stable version of Android 14 to the same device. It is worth noting though that the company has not officially confirmed that this is the case yet.

Instead, Honor has announced its Android 15 Beta Program for the Magic V2, as well as for the Magic6 Pro (curr. $1,049.99 on Amazon). For context, while Honor released the Magic6 Pro and Magic V2 globally just a month apart, it pre-installed Android 14 on the former and Android 15 on the latter. Thus, although Android 15 represents the first of four major MagicOS updates for the Magic6 Pro, it will be the second of four for the Magic V2.

In a press release, Honor explains that it started distributing Android 15 Beta 1 on May 10. However, we have not yet found any external evidence to demonstrate that this has occurred. Honor adds that it has only opened its Android 15 Beta Program for developers, for which it appears there is no public recruitment. Nonetheless, it is possible to download both upgrade packages from Honor's developer portal without a developer account. The company adds the following about Android 15 within the same press release:

Optimised Privacy and Security

With Android 15, users can safeguard their personal information with greater control in a more secure device environment. It introduces an SDK sandbox, which allows services such as advertising to be run in a sandbox, preventing third-party apps from collecting private user data. To further enhance the user's privacy experience, Android 15 introduces an enhanced Privacy Indicator with a new permissions management portal that allows users to be more aware of the status of their privacy protection, when managing and invoking permissions for features such as camera or microphone.

Performance and Power Enhancement

Android 15 continues to refine the Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF), which helps manage how power-intensive apps, like Gaming Apps, interact with the power system of the device, helping the device better respond to demands on its GPU, CPU, and cooling system, as well as helping apps with long-running background tasks to run energy efficiently.

Android 15 further optimises personalised features. For instance, for photo shooting via social media Apps, the in-app cameras can now control flash intensity. Developers can use Android APIs, tools and resources provided by Google to further optimise on more personalised user scenarios.
