Tipster says the Xiaomi 15 series will be more expensive than its predecessors

The Xiaomi 15 series, which is expected to debut after Qualcomm announces the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, is said to see a price hike. A reputed Weibo tipster named Digital Chat Station says that "it is difficult to maintain the original price range" for the company.

To fill you in, the Xiaomi 14 started at CNY 3,999 at launch, which is around $552. The 14 Pro started at CNY 4,999, about $691. Of course, the case for the international launch was different. The base variant started at €999, around $1,077, with the 14 Ultra starting at €1,499, about $1,617. These international prices are already high when you consider that the Galaxy S24 series started at $799.99, with the S24 Ultra launching at $1,199.99 (256 GB curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon).

However, as Digital Chat Station notes, the prices of chips and memories are currently on the rise. That, combined with the high cost of "upstream materials," is reportedly making it hard for the Xiaomi 15 series to stick with the price tags of its predecessor lineup.

Other than the price, recent reports about the Xiaomi 15 hinted that both the regular 15 and 15 Pro will come with a triple 50 MP camera setup on the back. They will have relatively larger apertures than the sensors found in the Xiaomi 14 phones. The base variant of the new lineup is expected to come without a non-periscope telephoto sensor, just like the predecessor.

However, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is said to feature a periscope camera that will enable it to deliver 3x optical zoom. Digital Chat Station has reported that the two upcoming phones will look very similar to their predecessors. The tipster further shared that the non-Ultra devices from the new series will come with a 2K AMOLED panel, with the 15 Pro having a curved display. They are also said to be much better than their predecessors, improving on the areas where the Xiaomi 14 lineup fell short.
