Sony Xperia 1 VI to launch with 1080p display in wild last minute rumour
Much has been said about the Xperia 1 VI of late. Most recently, presentation slides leaked online showing multiple device specifications, including an improved telephoto camera compared to last year's Xperia 1 V (curr. $854 on Amazon). However, one important element of the Xperia 1 VI appears to have flown under the radar.
It has been assumed for a while now that the Xperia 1 VI would mark a shift away from Sony offering 4K displays in its flagship smartphone. Ultimately, Sony proved to be the only major Android OEM to sell smartphones with 4K displays. By contrast, competitors tend to include 1440p (QHD) panels in their flagships or something between 1200p and 1440p.
Nonetheless, the likes of Samsung often set their 1440p flagships to 1080p (FHD) by default, presumably to maximise power efficiency. According to Japanese industry insiders, Sony has gone one step further. Allegedly, Sony has equipped the Xperia 1 VI with a 1080p panel, which it will also market as its brightest Xperia display ever and one that draws on its high-end Bravia TVs. Sony will reveal the Xperia 1 VI tomorrow alongside the Xperia 10 VI.
