Sony is not unveiling its next Xperia smartphones until tomorrow. Nonetheless, various leaks have revealed practically everything there is to know about the Xperia 1 VI, the successor to last year's Xperia 1 V (curr. $858 on Amazon). In summary, Android Headlines and @MysteryLupin kicked off the month by revealing dozens of official product renders, before Evan Blass joined the party with leaked promotional images.
Subsequently, details about the Xperia 1 VI's rear-facing camera sensors turned up online. Most recently, Sony itself teased display and camera upgrades. Now, leaked Japanese-language presentation slides have shed more light on Sony's next Xperia flagship. Embedded below, the slides contain many of the promotional images that Blass shared earlier this month.
The images also confirm new details though, such as the presence of an 85-170 mm variable focal length telephoto camera. Additionally, the same camera will be capable of delivering 'telephoto macro' shots like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, among others. Moreover, the Xperia 1 VI weighs 192 g and is 8.2 mm thick. In other words, the Xperia 1 VI will be heavier than its predecessor. With that being said, it will be considerably lighter than other camera flagships like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Galaxy S24 Ultra and the new Vivo X100 Ultra.
On top of that, the new leak reiterates that the Xperia 1 VI has a 19.5:9 display that Sony describes as its 'brightest Xperia display ever'. Surprisingly, Sony appears set to offer its next Xperia flagship in a new red colourway. However, we would not be surprised if this was a Japanese exclusive, given its commission from earlier leaks. Incidentally, Sony has reiterated in a new teaser that one of the focuses for the Xperia 1 VI will be its zoom capabilities, evidence of which we have embedded below.
