Hisense announces Starlight S1 new laser TV with folding screen
Hisense has revealed the Starlight S1 Laser TV in China. The new model uses an ultra-short-throw 4K projector to generate a 100-inch image on the accompanying screen. Another unusual feature of the product is that the 20 mm (~0.8-in) thin screen can fold in half, meaning it takes up less space when not in use.
The Starlight S1 uses Hisense’s digital Laser engine (LPU), delivering up to 380 nits brightness. Other features include a 2,500:1 contrast ratio, 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and MEMC motion smoothing technology. Plus, the model supports IMAX Enhanced, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG. The laser TV has a built-in 90W surround sound system, compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and you can physically connect external gadgets via HDMI ARC, USB and RJ45 ports. Hisense suggests adding its latest product to your smart home ecosystem and screen sharing from your phone via an NFC tap-and-play tool.
You can pre-order the 100-inch Hisense Laser TV Starlight S1 in China for 19,999 yuan (~$2,800). Plus, 75-inch, 80-inch and 88-inch models are expected to go on sale in the region this April. It remains unclear whether or not the product could launch in other markets like Europe or North America, where it already sells models like the 120-in L9G 4K UHD Laser TV.
